Introduction to Burlesque

6-week course, six 1-hour sessions over six weeks.
Runs at two venues, Victoria Park and Hilton, with new courses commencing every six weeks.

Course Description

Our short course is an introduction to the fun and glamorous world of burlesque! The course is all about having fun whilst discovering, exploring and drawing out your sexy, sensual inner burlesque queen, in a playful, safe and friendly environment!

Consisting of six 1-hour sessions over six weeks, you'll be introduced to the history of burlesque,  You'll learn how to be a glamour queen, including what to wear, how to walk (even in sky-high heels!) and how to exude confidence and sex appeal! You'll explore the art of the tease-artiste - how to play with a strap, peel a glove or strip a stocking to tantalise an audience... or just that special someone! And of course, we'll cover all the fundamentals of burlesque dance! You'll shimmy, shake, undulate, bump, grind, wiggle, jiggle, twirl and swirl your way through the classic burlesque moves and some fun group choreography. It's dead easy and a fun low-impact workout too!

Week 6. Burlesque Performance

At the end of the course, if there is enough interest in the class, we'd love to give you the opportunity to take your new burlesque persona to the stage! At the end of most courses we will put on a Graduate Show and you can make your burlesque debut, performing alongside your fellow students and the Sugar Blue Burlesque artistes too! Don't worry, performing in the show is completely optional.

What to Wear

The first session doesn't involve too much physical activity, so wear whatever you feel comfortable in. A pair of heels that you can walk in (or want to learn how to walk in!) is the most important thing to have for this course.

Restrictions

This course is for women only, and you must be 18 years or older.

No experience whatsoever is needed to take the course, it's perfect for all ages, shapes and persuasions! All levels of skill can be catered to, whether you're a dancer/actor/performer or have never taken a dance class in your life, either way, you'll finish the course as a glamorous queen of tease!

Price

$140 for the course.

As there are limited places available for each course, a $50 non-refundable deposit must be paid before the course commences. The remainder must be paid at the first class.

How to Pay:
We accept cash, money order, Paypal (including credit card payments) and direct deposit.
You can pay the full amount, or just a $50 deposit, before the workshop, by any of these methods. However, if you have paid a deposit only, then the balance will be required in full in cash on the day.

If you are taking the Introduction to Burlesque Course in Victoria Park, you can take the Introduction to Vintage Glamour Dances course at the same time, for only $100 (that's a $20 discount!).

If you are taking the Introduction to Burlesque Course in Hilton, you can stay on each night and take the Showgirl Shape-Up class (8-9pm) for just $10 (that's $5 off!).
